Are Masks Effective?

Kameron Lamprecht and Shea Cox

Many people have questioned if masks are really effective. Do they actually prevent the spread of COVID-19? Does it speed it up or slow it down?
Wearing masks affects students’ daily life. The masks are used to prevent the person wearing it from spreading their germs to others. CDC guidelines say the evidence is clear that masks can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and that the more people wearing masks, the better. A common concern with COVID now that shapes all of this guidance on masks is that we can’t tell who’s infected. You can’t look in a crowd and say ,”Oh,that person should wear a mask.” There’s a lot of asymptomatic infection, so everybody has to wear a mask.
Overall, the CDC states that wearing a mask will prevent you from spreading COVID to others. Wearing a mask may not stop COVID from spreading but it will slow it down.
