DC Golfer’s State Run
November 11, 2020
Ben Shelton represented Dyer County as a state competitor. The DC Golfer went to Manchester, Tennessee for the TSSAA Large Class State Championship. It took place on October 6th and 7th as a part of a two-day competition. Ben went up on Monday before and had an 18 hole practice round. He ended up shooting a 78 in his practice round. This gave him a good idea of what the course played like as this was his first time playing there.
Ben went into Tuesday morning’s round confident about his golf game for that day. Sure enough, Ben had a pretty solid day on the course as he fired in a 79 and put himself tied for 34th after the first day. “I hit that ball great that day and the short game was on as well, just couldn’t get the putts to fall as I wanted them to,” said Shelton. It was a fun round for him as he played a nice course and met some new golfers from the state of Tennessee.
Ben’s round on Wednesday didn’t go as good as it did on Tuesday, but he maintained his score to only shoot 2 strokes worse than Tuesday. His round wasn’t terrible as he was playing really well until he got back on the front nine. The front nine was a pain for the golfer as he shot 42 on the back nine. He maintained though as he shot a 39 on the front nine to shoot an 81. He ended the two days with a score of 160 and tied for 45th for the two-day tournament. This was his last high school tournament for his high school career as he will look to take his game to the next level.
