Everyone’s first major heartbreak affects every person differently. For Olivia Rodrigo, her first major heartbreak has catapulted her into overnight stardom.

Chances are if you have Tik Tok you have heard her new song ‘Driver’s License’ at least twelve times since its release. Rodrigo has starred in the Disney Channel comedy ‘Bizardvark’ and actively portrays Nini in Disney plus’ ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The series.’

The inspiration for this songs comes from her real-life breakup this year with HSMTMTS costar Joshua Basset who plays Nini’s on again off again boyfriend, Ricky. Her song has a raw and emotional aspect that clearly captures what heartbreak feels like and she does it so well that everyone who listens to it feels like this was their break up as well.

Lyrics from her song clearly point to who it is supposed to be about. “I got my driver’s license last week just like we always talked about “ This set of lyrics is symbolic of Basset because Olivia has shared that Basset taught her how to drive in and In and Out parking lot. “ And you’re probably with that blonde girl who always made me doubt she’s so much older than me “ In these lyrics, listeners think she is talking about Basset’s new relationship with Sabrina Carpenter, a blonde that is four years older than Rodrigo.

Olivia Rodrigo is a big fan of both Lorde and Taylor Swift and her music style perfectly combines both artist’s “vibe.”  The bridge in Driver’s License feels as if it could belong in a Lorde song while the lyrical aspect feels like that of a Taylor Swift song.  Swift herself may even agree as she was seen commenting “I say that’s my baby and I’m really proud” on an Instagram post Rodrigo made about being #3 on iTunes, right under two of Taylor Swift’s songs.

This song is trending for good reasons seeing that it can be very relatable for early teens going through heartbreak and the way it is written is captivating to all listeners.
