Pastafarianism

Pastafarianism

Cole Stork and Ryan Larson

Pastafarianism, the religion that shouldn’t be. Created as a parody religion it is primarily meant as a commentary on religion. Specifically on teachers teaching intellect design in schools. Created by Bobby Henderson when the Kansas State Board of Education permitted the teaching of intelligent design in schools. Intellect design is the idea that the universe was created with intelligent action rather than undirected and unpredictable action. Bobby Henderson demanded in an “open letter” to the Board of Education that equal time be given to the teaching of his religion as would be given to the teaching of intellect design.
Pastafarianism is used by atheists and agnostics to bring attention to certain falsities that countries with “freedom of religion” have ingrained into their societies. For many countries, for the longest time, it was easiest to get ahead in life if you were of a specific religion. Though this movement is largely used by atheists and agnostics it benefits everyone as it helps improve the life of any one of a different religion than the norm in their country.
The actual details of Pastafarianism are quite…strange. For the full shock effect of course the god they worship is the Flying Spaghetti Monster. A literal mass of Spaghetti and meatballs. This god is invisible, unpredictable, and the creator of everything. There are also many holidays that Pastafarianists celebrate. In the Pastafarian religion, every Friday is considered a holiday. There is also R’amen, Pastover, Ramendan, International Talk like a pirate day, & Holiday Season. Most are parodies of actual holidays or simply non-religious amalgamations of holidays.
Pastafarianism no matter how weird and downright insane the religion seems, is becoming more and more of a valid belief system and many are opening their eyes up to the great Flying Spaghetti Monster.
