On August 8th, 2014, Scott Cawthon released a game on Steam that he thought would be his last. Unknown to him, this game would quickly rise in popularity and had everyone talking about it, including many important influencers at the time. This game was called Five Nights at Freddy’s. Later that year, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 was released with many more games and a few book series in the years following it. Nonetheless, the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise is well known within the gaming community and it was no surprise that a lot of people were excited for the newest game coming out this December, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach.

Like many of the other games, Scott Cawthon and Steel Wool studios tried to keep the new game and its contents a secret for as long as possible but there have been enough teasers and trailers to get the premise of the game. With only a few days until the release of the game, here is what we know about the game.

The setting is in what’s called Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex, a mall-like building with an 80’s-style motif. The building is huge, with many different areas such as a food court, laser tag, golfing, storage areas, and, most creepily, the sewers.

The player takes control of Gregory, a little boy who is trapped in the Pizzaplex after closing and has to survive until 6 am in order to escape. Of course, it is easier said than done when almost all of the animatronics in the mall are coming after Gregory to murder him in, what I would guess, unpleasant ways. These animatronics include Glamrock Chica, Montgomery Gator, Roxanne Wolf, Sunnydrop and his nighttime counterpart Moondrop, and DJ Music Man. If those terrifying robots weren’t bad enough, Gregory will also encounter Vanny, a woman dressed frighteningly in a makeshift bunny suit, employee robots called Staff Bots that can alert enemies to Gregory’s location if they spot him, and a security guard named Vanessa, who many fans speculate might be the same person as Vanny but there is little evidence (the names being very similar might be enough evidence though).

Gregory might not have the best chances at making it to 6 am alive but he does have some help. Glamrock Freddy is an ally to the player in this game, giving Gregory advice, shortcuts, or warnings about the challenges and enemies he will face in the mall. Freddy also has a compartment in his stomach called the “birthday-cake-hatch” for Gregory to hide in. While inside Freddy, he can see through Freddy’s eyes and can use him to get past other animatronics without trouble. However, Freddy has very limited power so he’ll need to recharge at a charging station.

Unlike almost all of the other Five Nights at Freddy’s games, this game allows free-roaming, combat, features boss battles (which I could guess are going to be epic), and instead of five long nights that get progressively more difficult, the entire game takes place in a single night. Like the previous games, the enemies will get stronger as the night goes on. In order to defend himself, Gregory can hide to avoid enemies or throw objects to distract them. Running, of course, drains stamina and if low, he will not be able to move very fast. On his wrist, Gregory will have a “Faz-Cam” where he can access the missions, camera system, and his location in the mall. This Faz-Cam has a limited number of uses but can stun all enemies in front of the player. There is also a “Fazblaster” which is more powerful than the Faz-Cam and has unlimited power but requires there to be a direct headshot.

The main antagonist is Glitchtrap, a man in a terrifying bunny suit whose first appearance was in Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted. Glitchtrap brainwashes people in this world and makes them do his bidding, Vanny being one of them. She helps him with his evil plans for what can only be world domination. They have corrupted all the animatronics besides Glamrock Freddy for a reason I believe will be connected to the overall story.

I’m absolutely thrilled to see these characters in a new setting, fleshed out in a completely different way than before. I am also excited and a bit scared to see where the franchise will go once Scott Cawthon retires.
