Super Bowl LVI

January 15, 1957 marks history for being the exact date of our very first Super Bowl. Now, 55 years later, it has become a tradition for two NFL teams to play annually. This year, 2022, we see the Los Angeles Rams play against the Cincinnati Bengals alongside an breathtaking halftime performance made by Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Mary J. Blige. While we see many different perspectives of many of the players and how they feel under the pressure of 70,000 or more people watching them.

The Los Angeles Rams wide receiver doesn’t particularly like mentioning himself in interviews and other conversations while his team is on the field. Maybe this is because he gets nervous or feels uncomfortable. Yet he likes to say that this behavior is because when talking about his team or his family, he can give credit to those who made a difference to his mentality while playing. In the year of 2022 he makes an exception, for being the previous offensive player of the year, he caps off this magical season with snagging eight passes on 10 targets for 92 yards with two remarkable touchdowns. Including being the game MVP and putting his team ahead 23-20 in the final quarter.

Super Bowl 56 provides us with a halftime performance where some of hip-hop’s biggest names came to unite for one astounding show. Those performing were Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, with a surprise cameo from 50 Cent. The show began with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre performed “The Next Episode” and a few classics followed, including 50 Cent’s “In Da Club” and Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” Many fans across different social media platforms were quick to proclaim their love for these artists and their performances, with many on Twitter referring to these artists as the Music Avengers. As well as some of the most special moments fans responded to was Dr. Dre’s homage to Tupac and the appearance of 50 cent upside down on stage.

The superbowl is the championship of the national football league NFL and is easily the most watched single-day sporting event in the world. During our previous super bowl, the Rams made highlights while being down 20-16, going on a 15-play drive capped by Matthew Stafford’s 1-yard touchdown pass to Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp for the go-ahead score with 1:25 left. Kupp’s touchdown catch came after three costly penalties on the Bengals defense. This being when both teams were  3 flagged only twice within 58 minutes, the Bengals were called for penalties on three consecutive plays.

This year’s super bowl performance has definitely made up for some of our recent, especially during COVID. With the half-time show being one of the best in history, including some of hip-hop’s biggest stars, and what some of us like to consider (the classic artists of our modern day culture) put on a great show for their audience. As well as the Rams taking this season’s champions and getting their second win since the 2000s.
