Tips For Writing!

Jenna Claire Armstrong

Writing has been one of my main hobbies since I was a kid. It’s a great way to practice your creativity! However, if you are new to writing you might need some help. So, here are some things you can do to help you improve!

  1. Practice, practice, practice! This is one of the most important things to do. The best way is to write a couple of paragraphs every couple of days. This keeps your skills sharp and helps you remember the tone for your writing!
  2. Write down your ideas! While you may think you can remember everything, there are some little details that are easy to forget. When you get a flash of inspiration, best to pull out a notes app or piece of paper and write it down for later!
  3. Do research! Some settings require a lot of research, like historical fiction. Even in a fantasy novel some aspects still need to be researched such as how a wound affects a character. Don’t be afraid to look something up if needed!
  4. Ask for advice! Having people read over your work is the best way to catch grammatical errors you missed or to make sure the story makes sense. Other people tend to be less biased and can tell you what you’re doing well!
  5. Learn to accept criticism! No story is perfect and there’s always ways to improve! The best writers build upon the strengths of their previous works to make truly magnificent stories!
