We all know and love Johnny Depp. He is no doubt iconic. Playing in roles such as Willy Wonka, Edward Scissorhands, Victor Van Dort, Sweeney Todd, etc., Depp has left his mark on modern American film. Amber Heard is an American actress who has starred in multiple films, including 2018’s Aquaman. Depp and Heard met on set of The Rum Diary, when Depp was still in a relationship. Depp and Heard eventually married in 2015, before a messy divorce in 2017.

According to Heard, she had written an op-ed for the Washington Post, claiming herself to be a survivor of domestic abuse. While she did not mention Depp by name, it seemed pretty clear she was talking about Depp when she was in a relationship with him. Depp sued Heard for defamation, the amount valued at $50 million. Depp denied any kind of abuse allegation and insisted he did not hurt Heard, nor any woman, in any shape or form. Depp then claimed that Heard was the instigator and Heard is counter suing him for $100 million, still keeping up her story that he was physically and emotionally, saying the only times she ever got violent were only in self defense. 

The trial has been live streamed for people everywhere to see. Heard claimed that Depp threw a TV remote at her, leaving her bruised. Depp denies this claim. Heard wrote in her statement, “During the entirety of our relationship, Johnny Depp has been verbally and physically abusive to me..He has a short fuse. He is often paranoid and his temper is exceptionally scary for me.'” There were numerous recordings between Amber and Johnny which depicted arguments between the couple, mostly Amber yelling at Johnny. In one recording, Johnny told Amber that he was going to leave to attend a party, and that they will discuss the matter later, but Amber allegedly kept him from leaving, and yelled at him and asked him why he was always leaving. 

Co stars of Depp such as ex-partner Winona Ryder have said that Depp is not a harmful person, and that Heard’s accusations are not true in the slightest. Kate Winslet has also said that Depp is incredibly kind and loving, and he’d never put his hands on anyone else, let alone a woman. Throughout the trial, we can see how Depp is relaxed, calm, etc. Even doodling on a piece of paper on his table and showing it to his lawyer, and laughing at a witness vaping in his car and driving away. 

Amber Heard was diagnosed with BPD and a large case of narcissism, which shows pretty well. Throughout the recordings of conversations between Depp and Heard, she is heard saying “me” and “I” a lot, making the situation more about her and more about how she feels rather than how Depp feels. A giant breakthrough of the case is where photos of Johnny Depp were leaked with him having bruises along his face, implying that Heard had done something to him, rather than her doing something to him. 

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were not a match made in Heaven. They did not seem in love as they showed, and it showed that celebrity life is not so glamorous. Celebrities do go through things that “normal” people go through, and in this case: domestic abuse. Depp did not deserve the accusations Heard gave him, and this was his time to speak up and get justice for himself to save his career.
