Book Review: Daisy Jones & The Six
November 4, 2022
I believe that reading is a lot more interesting than other students seem to think. I’m not going to sit here and say there are so many health and mental benefits to reading, because I know you don’t want to hear about that. But I will say that you won’t think reading is genuinely fun, until you find a book you are genuinely interested in. Reading is meant to leave you feeling interested, not like you are just droning through it. So, we are starting this series to review books we’ve read or have just finished reading to hopefully help you find a book you may like!
The book I’ve been reading for the past two weeks has been Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This book was amazing and really leaves you wishing there was a second book. It also leaves you with the perfect amount of questions- up to your imagination to answer. While reading this book I genuinely got enthralled in this world and lifestyle, and after reading it I have multiple new interests I didn’t have before: The 70’s time period, band culture, the groupie lifestyle, the ways of the music industry, the L.A. lifestyle, and so much more.
I’m not going to spoil the book, but I will tell you some things about it that may pull you in. This book takes place from the early 70’s to the early 80’s, it isn’t from any certain persons point of view, the layout of the book is in a interview type style, its fast paced without leaving any gaps in the story, and it has the perfect amount of humor while also touching on multiple serious topics. The story follows the rise and fall of the hometown to world sensation band, The Six, and the groupie to music icon, Daisy Jones. You read and watch the lives before and the lead up to the two finally crossing paths and merging. You really see the ups and downs in the lives of both, leaving you genuinely feeling personally connected to the characters. During this book you will really feel happiness, anger, and sadness. Also bonus, there is a show being released based on this book at the start of 2023!
If I haven’t convinced you yet, let me just say that I finished this book in the middle of a class here at school, and I was genuinely sobbing in front of all my friends and the teacher over the ending. If that doesn’t show you how interesting and how genuinely involved I felt with this book, I have no clue what will. If you are interested in any of the interests I listed or feel the need to know more about anything I just told you, you will definitely love this book, and I will gladly let you borrow it from me! This book opened so many new worlds to me and is a complete 10 out of 10 in my eyes, so it definitely is a must read!
