With the start of a new year comes a lineup for up and coming blockbusters that are sure to bring a crowd. Whether you’re one who likes to get the full movie-goer experience by attending the theater and buying popcorn and slushies, or if you prefer watching the movie in the comfort of your own home while snuggling up on the couch, these movies are sure to strike your excitement for this year! To save you a bit of time, the movies have been categorized by genre to make sure you find exactly what you’re looking for. 

  • Horror/Thriller: 

M3GAN- Release date: January 6: A technological doll of the future called M3GAN is designed for children who want a life-like companion. Maker of the toy, Genna, uses her newly orphaned niece as a guinea pig for the new device. Come to find out, the doll may be a little too obedient to her task of protecting the young girl and soon takes a dark twist. 

Cast includes: Allison Williams (Genna) and Violet McGraw (Cady)

  • Adventure/Fantasy: 

Barbie – Release date: July 21: This movie takes a live-action form of our beloved childhood character: Barbie. There’s not many details provided about the movie at this point, but what we do know is that we have high hopes due to Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s leading roles. 

Cast includes: Margot Robbie (Barbie), Ryan Gosling (Ken), Greta Gerwig, and Simu Liu. 

  • Drama: 

Creed III – Release date: March 3: The third movie to this spin-off movie series of the original Rocky. Adonis Creed enters the ring once more, but this time he faces off against childhood friend Damian. 

Cast includes: Michael B. Jordan (Adonis Creed) , Jonathan Majors (Damian), and Tess Thompson (Bianca). 

  • Action: 

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes – Release date: November 17: 

Based on Suzanne Collins’ prequel novel, this story takes us back 64 years to describe the life of future president of Panem, Coriolanus Snow. The young man tries to make a name for himself in the capitol via his first experience with the now infamous “games.” 

Cast includes: Hunter Schafer (Tigris Snow), Rachel Zegler (Lucy Gray Baird), Tom Blyth (Coriolanus Snow), and Viola Davis (Dr. Volumnia Gaul).
