January 6, 2023
Who is Damar Hamlin? Damar Hamlin is an American football safety for an NFL team, the Buffalo Bills. Before he played football in the NFL, he played college football at the University of Pittsburgh and was selected by the Bills in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL draft. Along with his football career, Hamlin is a fashion entrepreneur. He also started a fashion line while he attended the University of Pittsburgh.
So, what happened to Damar Hamlin? During Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills safety, Damaar Hamlin, is in critical condition after collapsing on the field. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The team said that Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest following a hit in the game. Hamlin’s collapsing could have possibly been from Commotio Cordis, a blunt force trauma injury to the heart. According to Dr. Anigrekula, only 20-30 cases are reported annually in the U.S., and those are usually amongst young athletes. The team also said Hamlin’s heart was restored while on the field and that he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. Currently, he is sedated and listed in critical condition. Some say that since he suffered cardiac arrest after making a tackle, it is far more likely that he experienced ventricular fibrillation. As Hamlin made his way to the local hospital in the ambulance, Bills players and staff gathered in a circle, kneeling on the field in prayer.
