The Start of Softball Season

The 2023 softball season started on March 13th for the Lady Choctaws. We started off our season with two strong competitors. We started on Monday with Huntington and then on Tuesday with Lexington. These two teams are most likely two of the better teams we will face during our season. On Monday night, we had a pretty brutal loss to Huntington. We utilized both of our pitchers and multiple different players in different positions. In the field, we ended up having 6 errors. We only allowed 3 hits in the first 4 innings and then 3 hits in the 5th inning. On the offensive side, we could not manage to get our bats awake during this game. We only had 1 hit whereas Huntingdon had 6. On Tuesday night, the Lady Choctaws battled Lexington which is also one of our tougher competitors. Lexington has always been a team we know we have to be ready to compete our best against, especially since they are defending state champions. The Lady Choctaws gave a hard fight for 6 of the 7 innings during this game and fell short during their last inning. For most of the game, the Choctaws held the score to 4-2. Then in the 7th inning, we struggled on our defense and allowed them to score 6 more runs. We gained our momentum back by getting 3rd in the Sarah Beth Whitehead tournament the following weekend in Jackson, TN. During the weekend we won 4 out of our 5 games. We beat Waverly, JCS, TCA, and Bruceton. Then in our last game, against LCA, we fought a strong battle and ended up falling short 3-1. So, the Lady Choctaws ended our first week of the season with a 4-3 record.
