Dyer County Softball vs. Dyersburg Softball
April 29, 2023
My team had our first game against the Dyersburg Trojans on Thursday, April 13th, at the Doug French field. The Trojans started this game off in the first inning with Madyson Lanier grounding out, scoring one run. We tallied three runs in the third inning, putting us in the lead. In the third inning, Dyer County’s offense came from singles by Eden Larue and Emma Wray and a double by me, Brittany Anderson. Then in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Dyersburg Trojans tied things up at four. We were tied with the Trojans with four runs until the last inning of this game. In this game, Dyer County totaled eight hits and Dyersburg totaled six. On the mound for this game was Addie Gatlin, for Dyersburg, and me, for Dyer County. Gatlin allowed eight hits and four runs over nine innings, striking out seven. I allowed six hits and five runs over nine innings, striking out eleven. In the bottom of the ninth inning, with the score still being four to four, Izzy Odom hit a ground ball to short that ended up scoring the winning run. After this tight game of nine innings ended, the Choctaws fell to Dyersburg with the end score being Dyersburg at five runs and Dyer County at four runs.
The next time the Dyer County Choctaws and the Dyersburg Trojans faced each other was on April 28th. This time the Choctaws got to play on our own field. Both the Choctaws and the Trojans started off strong in the first inning, allowing zero runs on both sides. In the second inning, Dyersburg got the offense started when Lily Kate Jones doubled, scoring one run. In the third inning, The Choctaws pulled away with four runs. They loaded the bases with hits from Emma Fair, Caitlyn Berry, and Eden LaRue. After a hit from Emma Wray, they tied the score at 2-2. Then with a hit from me, Brittany Anderson, the Choctaws took the lead, making the score 3-2. Then ended up scoring another run in the inning, ending the inning with the score being 4-2. For Dyersburg, Alli Alford was the starting pitcher and for Dyer County, I was the starting pitcher. In seven innings, Alford allowed six hits and four runs, striking out four. Also lasting seven innings, I allowed two runs on seven hits, striking out six. Dyer County’s hits were led by Eden LaRue, Emma Fair, Emma Wray, Maddie Wilkerson, Caitlyn Berry, and Brittany Anderson, all with one hit. The score stayed 4-2 for the remainder of the game, with neither team allowing either more runs to score. So the Choctaws took the win for this game having four runs and leaving the Dyersburg Trojans with two runs.
This concludes the Dyer County vs. Dyersburg battles for the regular season, but with district tournaments starting, they will soon have to play each other again.
