In today’s world, many people discover current facts and information through social media. On social media, most of the information that is posted is false. Things are often posted for the sole reason of getting views instead of actually informing the community of true facts. On the other hand, journalism presents a way of learning about events in the world through valid sources that are always reliable. As a teenager about to graduate high school, I often find myself relying on journalism to inform me of important events. I understand the importance that this has on my community, my peers, and my life.
Complex situations that become intertwined with false information are often presented to the public. Journalists take this information and present it in a way that is more easily understood by the public. Journalists always fact-check their statements to make sure they do not misinform their readers. Their main goal is to educate the public with factual information, so people are led to a better understanding and are able to form their own opinions. Without these journalists, people would share their personal opinions instead of the pure facts, which would lead to their viewers having altered points of view.
Throughout the years, I have spent countless hours with my peers. I watch them unknowingly use journalism. From simply looking something up in between classes to doing research papers in English class, we are highly dependent on journalism. Without journalism, my peers, as well as myself, would not be fully aware of the things we need to know for future endeavors we will soon be experiencing.
