On Saturday October 15, 2022, Tennessee ended their 15 year long losing streak to Alabama for the first time since 2006 in Neyland Stadium. In a game that was nerve-wracking until the last 10 seconds, Kicker Chase McGrath kicked a 40 yard field goal and pulled off a win. While this may not have been a huge win (49-52) Tennessee fans were ecstatic, rushing the field and  carrying the goal posts all the way to the Tennessee River, earning the school a $100,000 fine. This game was very anticipated, so much so that ESPN’s College Gameday came back to Knoxville for the second time of the season, which was a big deal for Tennessee. The game had 101,915 fans in attendance, almost the maximum capacity for Neyland Stadium.

With Tennessee in the lead for the first quarter, Nick Saban, Alabama’s head coach, was in a panic. Luckily for them they were able to make a comeback in the second quarter, but Tennessee was on their A-game, causing Alabama to not be able to stay ahead. Many fans would state that Josh Heupel, Tennessee’s head coach, is a miracle for the program. They are now 7-0 and the last time they were undefeated was 1998, with a new saying erupting, “Feels like ‘98.” As soon as McGrath’s kick went through the field goal, orange fireworks erupted over Neyland and “Dixieland Delight” -a Crimson Tide favorite- blasted through the speakers. “This is college football at its absolute best,” Heupel said, “We were the best team on the field tonight. That’s all we can control.”
