This past Saturday, the Houston Astros won their second World Series. They won the series in 6 games on their home field against the Philadelphia Phillies. Even though it means a lot to their franchise, it means a lot more to their manager Dusty Baker. Baker became the manager of the Astros in 2020. However, he has been in the league for 54 years as a player and a coach. He joined the league in 1968 as a 19-year-old. After years of playing, in 1986 he retired from being a player. He wasn’t away for long because in 1992 he became the youngest manager in MLB history to the San Francisco Giants. In 2003, he moved organizations and managed the Chicago Cubs. After that, he was with the Washington Nationals for 2 years. After all these years of being in the MLB, he finally got his World Series ring.

The Astro’s for the past couple of years have been one of the better organizations in the league. In 2017, they won the World Series for the first time in history. However, people questioned them after the League announced they were caught cheating. After this, their reputation was questioned. They had to rebuild their team and organization to try to gain people’s respect back. Dusty Baker became the manager in 2020 and has really rebuilt this team. Among the four major sports, Baker is the oldest manager to win a championship at 73 years old. After speculations of him retiring, he has announced he will be returning to the Astro’s for next season. Dusty Baker has dedicated so much to this league. Hopefully, before he retires he can get another championship under his belt.
