Everyone loves a good horror movie, one that makes you jump or turn away in disgust. Most people watch horror movies with others so they aren’t too scared while others decide to watch them whenever they want without people or with. But what they both have in common is a strong interest in some good horror.
Many movies aren’t as scary as before. But one movie that especially got to me was the movie Haunting in Connecticut. In this movie, the oldest son is sick with cancer, they have to keep driving far to get his chemo and radiation. So they decide to temporally move into a house, that almost seems perfect. Just what they didn’t know was the strange past of the house was still living. After finding out the house used to be a morgue, the eldest son started to see ghosts and have scary visions. Which slowly turned into him thinking the radiation was getting to his brain but he couldn’t say anything because if he did, they would have to stop the procedure. So, he continued on and continued to see and have these scary things happen to him. Which turned into a physical issue where he had visible scars along his body from the ghost. At the end of the movie, the eldest son ends up trying to burn the house down with him inside of it, setting free all the lost souls that haunted the house. In return, he was saved by his mother and some firefighters. This movie had me jump, it’s scary and it’s based on a real story that happened in Georgia.
One movie that personally did not scare me was the 2017 movie of IT. In this movie it’s about the summer of 1989, a group of bullied kids band together to destroy a shape-shifting monster, which disguises itself as a clown and preys on the children of Derry, their small Maine town. While they are trying to destroy this monster, many kids keep going missing. Scary, right? No, even though it was a Stephen King-based movie, it did not live up to its expectations. Honestly, the second one was much better than the first. But neither scared me or made me jump. Also Pennywise looks a bit silly and not at all creepy. But overall, the movie is something I would recommend to others since the lore is decent, and the way story kinda blends together in a nice way. But, it definitely was not my favorite movie.
A newer movie that recently came out is the horror movie “Talk to Me” This movie was honestly one of my personal favorites. The storyline was amazing, the blend of the plot throughout the movie was just great and the plot twist at the end was so unexpected. Though, the movie is about a group of people who end up playing a paranormal game where you end up talking to ghosts in limbo. This game gets out of hand when a younger kid ends up being possessed by an evil spirit. As the movie continues the game is continued and the main character has to figure out what she can do to save the boy. This movie was amazing and the work put into it is definitely something some movies today horror movies don’t have much of. A ten out of ten movie.
Personally, this is all biased toward my preferences for movies. The movies I listed are some of the best and worst movies I’ve watched. Most of the best movies are older movies, since more stuff back then where more realistic, and more props that were real, were used. Now today’s movies are all CGI and mostly more animated than older movies. But all horror movies are relatively good, they all have the spark of some scare factor even if it’s a gore movie, paranormal, or a mind-tricking movie.
