Nike Versus Lil Nas X

Nike Versus Lil Nas X

Over the week there has been a lawsuit that was filed by Nike against Lil Nas X, and the reason for this is because of the Satan shoes. These shoes were a collaboration between the company MSCHF and the rapper, and these shoes would contain a single drop of human blood with a brass pentagram plus the Bible verse Luke 10:18. These shoes would cause controversy and that would be a reason Nike would start to go to court against this company and the Satan shoes.

Nike would ask for a temporary restraining order against MSCHF, and this request would be approved by a U.S. District Court in New York. This would stop the sale of the shoes, but over 665 of the shoes have already been sold. The final pair of shoes was going to be part of a giveaway but this would be put on hold because of the restraining order. Nike has come out and said that they had no involvement with MSCHF and Lil Nas X on the creation of the Satan shoes, and filed a trademark infringement and dilution complaint against MSCHF regarding the Satan shoes.

MSCHF lawyers would start to say that Nike’s claim is irrelevant because 665 pairs of shoes have been sold already. Nike’s lawyer would say that it would be impossible to get all 665 pairs of these shoes to ship to all of the people that order them, and they would say that there was irreparable harm caused by the shoes. Nike would also say that MSCHF used the “swoosh” with no public disclaimers or disassociations with Nike. Nike has said that most of its customers are now boycotting the brand. Nike would file a lawsuit against MSCHF because they argued the swoosh violated its trademark and damaged its brand.

Nike would win the court case which would lead to the sale of the Satan shoes to be blocked.
