From 2019 to 2020, Halloween candy sales decreased by nineteen percent due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. 2020 to 2021, sales steadily increased by ten percent; 2021 to 2022, sales increased by 23 percent.

A survey has found that the sales of candy have increased, as the pandemic is coming to an end in the United States. It has also found the most popular candies that have been sold this year. The candy is as follows, in order of most sales: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Skittles, M&M’s, Starbursts, and Hot Tamales. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were found to be the most popular in 18 states- but not all states agreed. Texas, for example, was one of the states that chose a non-chocolate candy as their favorite: Starburst. Oklahoma voted Skittles as their favorite. M&M’s was the most popular in Colorado, New Hampshire, Oregon, Ohio, Iowa, Vermont, and Kansas. Sour Patch Kids were the most popular in Alaska, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Delaware, and New York. The worst candies, according to an American survey, include Circus Peanuts, Candy Corn, Peanut Butter Kisses, Necco Wafers, and Wax Cola Bottles.

Similar to this year’s, the top candies in 2021 were Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Skittles, M&Ms, Starburst, and Hot Tamales. United States consumers are expected to spend about $3.1 billion dollars on candy this year. This will surpass the sales of the past two Halloweens.
