Book Review: Gone Girl

Brooklynn Barbee, Journalist

For part two of my “Book Review” series, I’m going to talk about the book Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn- without spoiling it of course. This book appeals to many different types of genres: horror, romance, thriller, plot-twists, female rage, suspense, etc. Making this book very versatile and very easy to be enjoyed by all types of readers. The official genre that this book is under is “thriller”, and i’d say it is definitely a thrilling read. This book is perfectly paced and great for anyone who is looking for a book they genuinely won’t be able to put down. The eerie hometown setting will definitely leave you reflecting on your own town, and the unexpected personalities of the characters will have you double-taking at your own peers around you.

So, this book takes place in North Carthage, Missouri, 2012. An ex New York-based journalist, Nick Dunne, and what seems at first to be his trophy wife, Amy Dunne, appear to be the perfect example of a white picket fence couple at first. However, when Amy goes missing on the couple’s five year wedding anniversary, Nick becomes the prime suspect in her disappearance. With tension rising with his family, her family, and the police, the media and and town, All the onlookers of the situation make it a point to ruin the Dunne’s image of a happy union, leading to tantalizing questions about who Nick and Amy really are. This whole story is plot-twist after mind altering plot-twist, and will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time you are reading. This book is the opposite of predictable and will have you questioning everything.
