Huntingdon Marching Invitational

On Saturday, October 5th, the Sound Of The Choctaws Marching Band competed in the Huntingdon Marching Invitational at Huntingdon High School in Huntingdon, Tennessee. The band competed in preliminary performance in the morning, and then in finals that evening.

In preliminary performance, Dyer County competed in Division 1 against 16 other bands. The 17 bands in Division 1 were Ripley, Hollow Rock Bruceton, Scotts Hill, Halls, Fayette Academy, Liberty Tech, Cheatham County, Stewart County, Lexington, North Side, West Carroll, McKenzie, Middleton, Camden Central, Dyer County, Waverly Central, and Goodpasture Christian. The band competed against 4 of those bands in Class AAA. The bands in class were Middleton, Camden Central, Dyer County, Waverly Central, and Goodpasture Christian.

In Class AAA Dyer County received 2nd place Music Ensemble, 2nd place Music Effect, 2nd place Visual Ensemble, 2nd place Visual Effect, and 2nd place overall in class! Class order from 1st to 5th place was Goodpasture Christian (1st place, 71.15), Dyer County (2nd place, 63.15), Waverly Central (3rd place, 60.35), Middleton (4th place, 58.00), and Camden Central (5th place, 52.25).

In Division 1, Dyer County received 2nd place Percussion, 3rd place Color Guard, 4th place Drum Major, and 4th place overall in division! Division order from 1st to 17th place was Goodpasture Christian (1st place, 71.15), West Carroll (2nd place, 66.20), Cheatham County (3rd place, 63.40), Dyer County (4th place, 63.15), Fayette Academy (5th place, 61.05),  McKenzie (6th place, 60.45), Waverly Central (7th place, 60.35), Lexington (8th place, 59.05), Ripley (9th place, 58.75), Middleton (10th place, 58.00), Halls (11th place, 54.30), Stewart County (12th place, 52.55), Camden Central (13th place, 52.25), Liberty Tech (14th place, 51.50), Hollow-Rock Bruceton (15th place, 51.15), and Scotts Hill (16th place, 47.75), North Side (17th place, 0.00).

The bands in Division 2 (Class AAAA, Class AAAAA) were larger; therefore, Dyer County did not compete against them in prelims. The bands in Division 2 were Obion County, McNairy County, Peabody, Sycamore, South Gibson County, Union City, Gibson County, and Henry County.

During prelim awards, the judges announced which of these bands outperformed and made finals. The bands that made finals were Dyer County, Cheatham County, West Carroll, Fayette Academy, Goodpasture Christian, McKenzie, South Gibson County, McNairy Central, Peabody, Gibson County, Henry County, and Sycamore.

In finals, Dyer County received 4th place Music Ensemble, 2nd place Music Effect, 2nd place Visual Ensemble, and 3rd place Visual Effect. The Divisional awards received were 6th place Percussion, 3rd place Color Guard, 3rd place Drum Major, and 3rd place overall division rank.

The placements for Division 1 Finals were Goodpasture Christian (1st place, 75.35), Cheatham County (2nd place, 66.20), Dyer County (3rd place, 66.10), West Carroll (4th place, 63.05), Fayette Academy (5th place, 61.30), and McKenzie (6th place, 60.35).

Dyer County has had an excellent season thus far! Keep up the good work guys.
