The time has come again, my friends
To gather ‘round and eat
To set aside all our troubles
At a familial retreat
We talk, we laugh, we say a prayer
Hearts full of gratitude
It’s here we see smiling faces
Feel a positive attitude
This is the idea, of course
But may not always be true
This may seem so out of reach
For more than just a few
Some may not smell a harvest feast
Wafting from their kitchen
They will not taste a single crumb
For food, they are not rich in
Some may not see their siblings
their fathers nor their mothers
They will not hear their family’s voices
For them, there are no others
Some may not feel a homely warmth
Lack of walls to block the cold
It hurts they have to live this way
People both young and old
You may not have a table of food
No family in sight
You may not have a place to stay
But then again, you might
If you are a member of the blessed life
Be grateful for what you’ve got
Love, eat, and be merry
Aid those who have naught
