Grandparents House

 Grandparents House – Picture Fiction

By: Amberlynn Robbins

There was once a beautiful girl who resided with her grandparents after her mother and father tragically met their end in a car wreck. It was devastating for her; she was an only child, she had sparse knowledge of the world, and still depended on someone to dress her in the morning.  Her name was Clementine but her mother dubbed her Clem, she was turning thirteen in the spring which was only a few days away, she also shared a birthday with her mother and she wanted a fairy-themed birthday cause she knew her mother loved fairies when she was a little girl as well. Her grandparents lived in a cabin-like house in the woods far from town but close enough to where Clem could ride her bike to the park and store, she adored riding through the forest. Sometimes she’d see animals, she would always stop and watch them. Clem got to her grandparent’s house after her grandma picked her up, Clem settled into her room which had been a guest room before she took it. Her grandparents had hoped to fill the house with grandchildren, so the house was larger than needed. The smell of the room was like forgotten books, and new sugar vanilla with a hint of outside fresh air, probably from a window cracked a little to help air out the oldness of the space. Clem then sat her stuff down and looked around for a bit. Clem looked out the window and noticed the sun began to set, casting a golden orange over the expanse of the gorgeous trees. She decided to head outside and visit the place her mother once called home. Clem began to walk in the woods and the sun started to go down while she continued her journey into the meadow woods. Clem began to see a trail leading to a meadow of pink and yellow flowers which were her mother’s favorite colors and to just one single tree on its own that was very tall and wide with beautiful dark green vines that were her father’s favorite color’s as well. As Clem got closer to the flowers they began to change into different colors with each step she took. Pink then yellow and back to pink with every crunch of a step clem took on the leaves and sticks that had got in the way. She stood still and began to hear little whispers as if someone was trying to talk to her through the cold wind. “Who is there? Can you hear me?”Clem stated and the noise of flying got louder yet soft as if it was a bee or a hummingbird trying to fly near her ear. “This is freaking me out, is anyone there?”She continued to call out but no one answered. Clem continued to walk to the tree and she noticed there was a white box on the tree as if it was a door. Clem was confused but continued her journey to the wide tree. Clem finally reached the tree and there was a door, a big beautiful white door with moss and leaves grown around it like it has not been open in forever. Clem grabbed the white rusty ring knob to walk inside, but before she was able to pull on the door she felt a weight on her shoulder like someone had grabbed her or like a big bug had landed on her. Clem did not freak out but she glanced over to see to her surprise the little feet of a human. “What is this?” she whispered to herself. Clem got scared and was in shock. She could not breathe, she just stood there like she had blacked out but standing up, not even a movement of breath came out of her mouth. She began to panic, She looked over her shoulder to see a small human with wings. “A fairy?”Clem had so many questions running through her mind. The fairy began to show signs of Clem’s mother. The little human had yellow wings with a pink dress that looked handmade, it was cute. The little human showed no signs of harm so the fairy had let her continue with opening the door to the tree. As Clem opened the door to the tree fairies were all in there sitting and waiting as if Clem was her mother again. They asked for her mother like Clem had been her mother in their eyes. Clem began to fix up the inside of the tree so that the many fairies could have a beautiful and comfortable place to live. As the night began to fall the outside became cold, and windy, As she began to walk home the fairies led and lit her way home on the path. She got back to her grandparent’s house and went to her room and she got ready for bed and laid down. There was a little knocking on her window, Clem sat up, she was very frightened, she began to creep to the window and looked out of her curtains, it was the tiny humans. Clem got up and opened the window, the tiny humans began to fly in and lay down as if they were used to sleeping in the room Clem now stays in. Clem lay back down and started to fall asleep, she enjoyed her big and bright day as she also found new friends. Clem woke up that morning, the smell of runny eggs, greasy bacon and sausage, the smell of warm and syrupy pancakes took over the smell of her room, as she started to get more awake, she looked around and saw her door was open and her heart dropped. She jumped up out of bed and saw her grandmother and grandfather feeding the tiny humans as if they were just used to this. She sat down at the table and looked around as she was shocked. As they all finished eating, Clem’s grandmother asked, “What, you don’t think this is normal in the spring?”Clem was so surprised she did not expect that her grandparents would know anything about the tiny humans she met yesterday. As they all started to finish breakfast, Clem and the fairies started to clean up to help Grandmother with the kitchen so they could go back out to the tree. As they were on the way back to the tree the fairies and clem started to come tired, they finished their journey to the big willow tree clem and the fairies started to get tired. They were all full and they started to make pallets and places to take a nap as the day fell and night started to show. Clementine and the fairies fell asleep and dreamed the rest of the night.
